Restruction Policy
Policy Statement
FaST - Jurnal Sains dan Teknologi (hereinafter referred to as FaST) acknowledges that authors put substantial effort into preparing their manuscripts and following the journal's peer-review process. However, circumstances may arise where published articles must be corrected, flagged, or retracted.
When a published article is found to violate scientific integrity or publication ethics, corrections, clarifications, retractions, and formal apologies will be issued as necessary. These actions are governed by strict criteria to preserve public trust in the authority and completeness of our electronic archives and to safeguard the integrity of the scholarly record for researchers and academic libraries.
Article Retraction Criteria
An article retraction is executed when a paper is found to contain severe scientific errors or violations of ethical codes, including but not limited to:
- Unannounced duplicate or redundant submission;
- False claims of authorship, guest/ghost authorship, or unauthorized inclusion of authors;
- Substantial plagiarism or uncredited reuse of ideas/text;
- Data fabrication, falsification, or fraudulent manipulation of results;
- Peer review manipulation or unethical research practices.
A retraction may also be used to correct fundamental errors in submission or publication that render the research conclusions untrustworthy. A retraction can be initiated by the author(s) or by the Editor-in-Chief upon the advice of the Editorial Board.
Retraction Mechanisms
FaST applies the following mechanisms depending on when the ethical violation or fundamental error is identified:
1. Pre-Publication Misconduct
If an infringement of scientific codes or ethics is identified before the manuscript is formally published, the Editor will reject/withdraw the manuscript and issue an official notification letter signed by the Editor-in-Chief.
2. Post-Publication Misconduct
If an infringement or fatal error is identified after the article has been published online, the following actions will be taken:
- Retraction Landing Page: The online article link resolves to a screen containing a prominent Retraction Note detailing the background and reasons for the action. Readers may proceed from this screen to the original document.
- Watermarked PDF: The original PDF document is retained in the electronic archive to preserve historical record integrity, but every page is permanently watermarked with the label "RETRACTED".
- HTML Update: The HTML full-text version of the document is updated or replaced with the formal Retraction Statement.
Retraction Procedure
To ensure retractions are conducted in full compliance with international publishing best practices, FaST enforces a structured 5-step process:
- Reporting: An ethical issue or fundamental error regarding an article is brought to the attention of the Editor-in-Chief or Editorial Office.
- Initial Review: The Editor-in-Chief reviews the report and initiates an investigation following the journal's author and ethical guidelines.
- Editorial Board Consultation: Before taking final action, the Editor forwards the investigative findings to the Editorial Board of FaST. The board acts as an advisory panel to evaluate the evidence, ensuring a consistent and objective approach aligned with COPE principles.
- Notification: The final decision regarding retraction is formally conveyed in writing to the corresponding author, co-authors, and, if necessary, their affiliated home institutions or relevant regulatory bodies.
- Publication of Statement: The official Retraction Statement is published online, assigned a persistent link/DOI, and included in the next available issue of the journal.
