Manuscript Type
FaST - Jurnal Sains dan Teknologi (hereinafter referred to as FaST) accepts manuscripts reporting original scientific research, technological developments, and engineering applications that align with the journal's Focus & Scope.
Every manuscript must present research work in a scientific, systematic, rigorous, and verifiable manner, providing sufficient data, clear methodologies, thorough analysis, and robust discussions of the findings.
Primary Manuscript Categories
1. Original Research Articles
Original Research Articles are the primary manuscript type accepted by FaST. These papers report original, unpublished empirical or theoretical research that contributes novel scientific insights, technical advancements, or practical applications within the fields of science, engineering, and technology.
Research articles may cover various sub-disciplines aligned with the journal's Focus & Scope, including but not limited to:
- Applied science, industrial engineering, and manufacturing systems;
- Information technology, software engineering, and business intelligence;
- Operations research, optimization algorithms, and decision support models;
- Material science, biotechnology, and chemical engineering;
- Civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering applications;
- Environmental technology, sustainability, and green systems; and
- Other interdisciplinary technological research relevant to FaST.
2. Technical Notes / Short Communications
Short reports or technical notes presenting groundbreaking preliminary findings, novel technical methodologies, software tools, or rapid advancements in technological research. These submissions must meet the same quality and ethical standards as full research articles but are presented in a more concise format.
Essential Characteristics of Submissions
Submitted manuscripts must clearly demonstrate:
- Background & Problem Statement: A clear context, rationale, and specific research problem or scientific objective;
- Literature Review: A comprehensive review connecting the study to relevant existing scientific literature;
- Methodology: Detailed, reproducible descriptions of methods, experimental setups, algorithms, mathematical models, or data collection tools;
- Data & Results: Empirical results supported by accurate data, mathematical models, statistical analyses, tables, figures, or visualizations;
- Discussion: In-depth critical analysis evaluating the findings in relation to existing scientific knowledge, theoretical frameworks, or practical implementations; and
- Conclusion: Concise conclusions that summarize the main findings, address the research objectives, and outline future work or implications.
Structure, length, formatting, and citation requirements must strictly adhere to the Author Guidelines and Official Manuscript Template of FaST.
Out-of-Scope Submissions
FaST does not accept manuscripts as Original Research Articles if they:
- Present purely descriptive community service or outreach reports without a rigorous scientific methodology or research component;
- Present opinion pieces, position papers, non-academic commentary, or unexecuted project proposals;
- Lack sufficient technical/methodological details, raw data, or empirical evidence required to validate the research findings;
- Consist of plagiarized content, uncredited reuse of published work, or data fabrication/falsification; or
- Fall entirely outside the Focus & Scope of FaST.
The Editorial Board conducts an initial desk evaluation to assess the manuscript type, technical quality, and thematic scope before determining whether the submission qualifies for formal peer review.
Editorial Processing and Evaluation
- Initial Screening: The inclusion of a paper within an accepted manuscript category does not guarantee publication. All submissions undergo initial editorial screening for scope alignment, formatting compliance, plagiarism detection, and academic rigor.
- Peer Review: Manuscripts that pass initial screening undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review by qualified bestary partners (reviewers).
- Desk Rejection: Manuscripts failing to meet the basic standards, structural requirements, or scientific quality expected by FaST will be desk-rejected prior to peer review.
