In general, piano and guitar duets in jazz focus on exploring the melody, harmony, rhythm, and interaction between players. It resulted in the duet jazz piano and guitar albums that tend to sound identical. To avoid this, Gerald Situmorang and Sri Hanuraga, in the song “Hyperreality” (from the META album) focused on the exploration of the timbre aspect to enrich their exploration of melody, harmony, and rhythm. This study discusses the musical approach of Gerald Situmorang and Sri Hanuraga in the song “Hyperreality” in terms of melody, harmonization, and rhythm of the song. Moreover, this study also describes the use of prepared piano, guitar effects, and DAW by Gerald Situmorang and Sri Hanuraga in the song “Hyperreality”.
Permainan duet piano dan gitar dalam musik jazz umumnya berfokus pada eksplorasi melodi, harmoni, ritme dan interaksi antar pemain. Hal ini mengakibatkan album duet jazz piano dan gitar cenderung berbunyi identik. Untuk menghindari hal itu, Pada lagu “Hyperreality” dari album META Gerald Situmorang dan Sri Hanuraga, Sri Hanuraga dan Gerald Situmorang menitikberatkan eksplorasi mereka kepada aspek timbre untuk memperkaya eksplorasi melodi, harmoni dan ritme mereka. Penelitian ini membahas pendekatan bermusik Gerald Situmorang dan Sri Hanuraga pada lagu “Hyperreality” dalam aspek melodi, harmonisasi dan ritme dari lagu. Selain itu penelitian ini juga akan menjabarkan menjabarkan penggunaan prepared piano, efek gitar dan DAW oleh Gerald Situmorang dan Sri Hanuraga di lagu “Hyperreality”.
