The Influence of the Work Environment on the Performance of Restaurant Employees in Tangerang
Abstract
This study is based on data indicating that the work environment has a significant influence on employee performance. Therefore, this research was conducted by distributing questionnaires to employees as respondents to collect relevant and reliable data. The objectives of this study are: (1) to determine the influence of the work environment on employee performance in restaurants operating in the Tangerang area, and (2) to identify whether a supportive work environment can affect employee performance. This research uses a quantitative approach with a survey method by distributing questionnaires to several employees working in several restaurants in Tangerang. The study focuses on two main aspects of the work environment: physical and non-physical aspects. The physical aspects include lighting, cleanliness, workspace comfort, and ventilation, while the non-physical aspects include relationships among employees, communication, leadership style, and work pressure. The findings of this study indicate that the work environment overall has a positive and significant influence on employee performance. In particular, the non-physical work environment, especially leadership factors and relationships between coworkers, has a stronger influence compared to physical factors. These results suggest that supportive leadership and positive interpersonal relationships in the workplace can significantly improve employee motivation and productivity. In conclusion, effective management of the work environment can serve as an important strategy to enhance employee performance. Therefore, restaurant management is encouraged to continuously evaluate workplace conditions and create a healthy, comfortable, and collaborative work environment to support optimal employee performance and organizational productivity.
