Desain Sebagai Generator: Bagaimana Desain Menjadi Terang Bagi Semua Orang

Abstract


Desain sebagai Generator (DAG: Design as Generator) adalah sebuah metolodologi yang dibangun untuk menjawab peran sosial dunia desain terkini dengan menghadirkan desain sebagai generator pemberdayaan masyarakat yang menggunakan pendekatan kolaboratif-partisipatoris. Metodologi spesifik penelitian-tindak-desain ‘Desain sebagai Generator’ mengombinasikan rona penelitian PAR (Participatory Action Research) dengan kerangka kerja LTA (Look-Think-Act) dan alat kerja pendorong inovasi desain dalam proyek sosial dengan pendekatan DT (Design Thinking) - HCD (Human Centered Design) ke dalam model penelitian Mixed Methods - Sequential Embedded Experimental Model. Dengan metodologi DAG ini sekelompok orang bersama komunitas sasaran dapat bekerja sama dan bergerak berpindah-pindah dari aktivitas meneliti, aksi dan mendesain sekaligus juga bergerak dari penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif (partisipatoris) ke penelitian yang bersifat kuantitatif (eksperimental). DAG sebagai kegiatan meneliti, aksi dan mendesain kemudian menjadi dasar banyak kegiatan sinergis antara bidang pengajaran, penelitian dan pengabdian kepada masyarakat di dalam lingkungan School of Design, UPH yang secara aktif melibatkan para pengajar, mahasiswa/i, komunitas dan warga masyarakat untuk saling berdaya dan memberdayakan. Sesuai visi misi UPH menjadi Christ Centered University – yang mengedepankan True Knowledge, Faith in God and Godly Character, DAG bertujuan memberi dampak positif (pemberdayaan) dan memberikan pengalaman transformasional bagi semua pihak yang terlibat dan menunjukkan cara bagaimana desain dapat menjadi terang bagi semua orang.
