Abstract

Community needs for psychological counseling services in Indonesia are increasing. However, there is still an unequal prevalence between the number of psychologists who are able to carry out counseling and the number of people who need counseling services. The National Institute of Health Research and Development (Riset Kesehatan Dasar – Riskesdas) in 2013 noted that the number of psychologists in Indonesia is not sufficient to treat mental disorders in Indonesia, especially serious mental disorders. The other difficulties that also faced are: (1) the distribution of psychologists practices are mostly places in big cities; (2) social stigma that makes people feel ashamed for visiting psychologist; and (3) the Covid-19 pandemic condition that limits face-to-face counseling. This activity aims to develop an android-based counseling application for all people of North Sumatra. The community service team has also collaborated with Indonesian Psychological Association North Sumatera Region (HIMPUNAN PSIKOLOGI INDONESIA WILAYAH SUMATERA UTARA - HIMPSI SUMUT) which is currently the largest community for psychologists in the North Sumatra region. The counseling application is designed with 6 main features: (1) content management system, (2) psychologist data, (3) counselee data, (4) counseling type data, (5) private chat rooms, and (6) premium member. The application development is now entering the trial phase and will be disseminated to the public.
