Kontroversi Karya-Karya Edgar Degas mengenai Misogini dan Relevansinya dengan Isu Objektifikasi Perempuan dalam Media Sosial dan Periklanan
Abstract
Makalah ini membahas bagaimana objektifikasi perempuan dapat ditelusuri kembali ke karya-karya seni kontroversial Edgar Degas pada akhir abad ke-19 dan relevansinya dengan pandangan terhadap perempuan sampai saat ini. Penggambaran perempuan sebagai objek hasrat dalam media sosial dan periklanan pada zaman ini telah memengaruhi citra tubuh perempuan dan menimbulkan tekanan untuk memenuhi suatu standar kecantikan tertentu. Konsep male gaze memainkan peran kunci dalam pemaknaan ini, mengindikasikan dominasi pandangan laki-laki dalam media visual dan penekanan pada penampilan fisik perempuan. Pembiaran dominasi dan tindakan objektifikasi ini melahirkan beberapa permasalahan seperti, kecemasan dan rasa malu akan penampilan diri, eating disorders, depresi, serta penurunan produktivitas. Dengan fenomena objektifikasi perempuan yang terus berkelanjutan, tanggapan yang tepat dari masyarakat diperlukan. Makalah ini hendak mengeksplorasi dan menganalisis permasalahan tersebut dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, khususnya penelitian kepustakaan (library research). Melalui Langkah metodologis tersebut, penulis menyimpulkan bahwa masyarakat memiliki peran krusial dalam meresponi dan memerangi objektifikasi perempuan secara aktif. Upaya ini dapat dicapai dengan penggunaan media sosial dan periklanan secara etis serta kritis. Hal ini dapat ditunjukkan oleh contoh kasus Billabong. Kasus ini menunjukkan bagaimana masyarakat dapat berperan aktif dalam memberi tekanan terhadap industri media untuk mengadopsi praktik pemasaran yang menghormati martabat perempuan. Melaluinya, narasi yang berdampak buruk bagi citra dan kesejahteraan perempuan di era digital ini dapat berubah.
