Abstract

Addison's disease is a rare endocrine disorder characterized by damage to the adrenal glands, leading to decreased production of important hormones such as aldosterone and cortisol. This study aims to examine the pathophysiologic mechanism of this disease and evaluate the effectiveness of Fludrocortisone therapy in its management. The adrenal glands, located above the kidneys, play a role in producing hormones that regulate salt balance, blood pressure, and the body's immune response. Damage to the adrenal glands can be caused by autoimmune factors or infection, leading to symptoms such as hypotension, muscle weakness, and hyperpigmentation. The method used in this research is a literature study, where data is collected from various sources, including scientific journals, articles, and books. The use of this method is done by identifying relevant topics, conducting a systematic search to find quality sources, and analyzing and synthesizing the information obtained to get an accurate and comprehensive picture of Addison's disease and its treatment. Fludrocortisone therapy, which functions to replace aldosterone, has proven effective in improving electrolyte balance and blood pressure. With proper clinical evaluation and dosage adjustment, this therapy offers a long-term solution for people with Addison's disease. The research findings suggest that a deep understanding of Addison's disease management can improve patients' quality of life and reduce the risk of serious complications.
