Penerapan Model Discovery Learning Dalam Pembelajaran IPA Kelas VII Topik Klasifikasi Mahkluk Hidup

One of the junior high schools built explicitly for Papuan Children aims to shape students' character so that they grow in faith in Jesus Christ. However, based on observations and interviews with homeroom teachers, students have cognitive problems, tend to be passive, and do not want to ask the teacher. Therefore, learning to encourage students to be active can ultimately improve students' cognitive abilities. The learning model used is discovery learning, which provides opportunities for students to participate in the exploration and discovery process actively. The summative assessment results show that students achieve the KKM score with a passing percentage of 95%, which indicates success in understanding the concepts taught. With this learning model, the teacher acts as a mentor who guides students and provides direction in the discovery process. Reflections and suggestions for improvement from implementing the use of discovery learning: teachers need to link the material with local experiences in Papua and conduct direct field observation activities to maximize learning.
