Abstract
The Havruta learning method is a method used by Israelis to study the Torah, Talmud, and other Jewish texts. This method is unique and highly focused. Learning is never done alone, but always in partnerships with fellow students. The word “havruta” itself means “fellowship” or “companionship,” and in English, simply “friendship” in Indonesian. The Havruta learning system emphasizes not only academic learning but also the rich learning within the friendship itself, whether in partnership or in pairs. The results of Havruta are measured by how the learning partners apply their understanding and analysis to real-life situations. So, it’s not just theoretical material that’s studied, but also real-life practice, so that understanding and transformation become profound and memorable. Havruta involves a process of “meaning-making,” which occurs within the context of mutual relationships between people. What two or three or more people learn in Havruta individually forms a coherent meaning within their mutual learning and teaching relationship, allowing them to truly “see” the meaning of the learning itself. This article will explain the Havruta learning process within the biblical concepts of the Old and New Testaments. It is hoped that this study of the Havruta method will contribute to contemporary Christian education in Indonesia.
