Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Selaras: Journal of Psychological Studies is published twice a year (every Mei and Oktober). Submissions are welcome at any time. The review process (double-blind peer review) is targeted to be accomplished within 3 months after submission.

Please submit your manuscript electronically through the manuscript submission portal in Microsoft Word format. You will need to register a new account (if you do not have one) to submit. Do not submit manuscripts to the editor's email address.

General Guidelines

  1. The submitted manuscript must adhere to the guidelines of the 7th Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
  2. The submitted manuscript must reflect an original work and be free from plagiarism. The editorial board reserves the right to automatically reject the submission should plagiarism be detected (the threshold of 15% maximum similarity, in accordance with TurnitinTM result output)
  3. Manuscripts in either English or Indonesian language is accepted, however, manuscripts written in English by non-English native authors must be edited by a professional English editor before sending for review
  4. Please download the template of the manuscript (INDONESIAN / ENGLISH)  and title page (INDONESIAN / ENGLISH) before submitting your manuscript.  All files should be submitted in MS Word format; do not submit files in PDF format.
  5. The maximum word length for the manuscript is 6,000 words, including a bi-lingual abstract (of a maximum of 150 words for each language), main text, references, tables, and figures. The Cambria font (10.5 pt) should be used, with 1.5 spacing, in Microsoft Word format with A4 page size (210 x 297 mm).
  6. Tables and figures are presented to enhance clarity and are not redundantly explained in the paragraphs. Tables or graphs must be in editable format (not screenshots, not Jpeg/png format).
  7. Authors are encouraged to use referencing manager tools (e.g. EndNote, Mendeley).
  8. To enable a double-blind review procedure, the title page must be uploaded separately. The manuscript must not contain any author-identifying information. Below are the required files for the submission.
    1. Cover letter.
    2. The title page, includes the title, list of author's names and affiliations, correspondence email, acknowledgment, funding, and conflict of interest. Download the template for the title page here (INDONESIAN / ENGLISH).
    3. The main manuscript MUST NOT include any information about authors and affiliations, including acknowledgment, funding, and conflict of interest sections. Download the template for the manuscript here (INDONESIAN / ENGLISH).
    4. Other supporting files (if any).

Manuscript Structures

General structures of the manuscript include:

  • TITLE OF THE MANUSCRIPT. The title must be concise (no more than 14 words), must reflect the main findings, and must be clearly and creatively articulated.
  • ABSTRACT. Regardless of the language used in the manuscript, an unstructured abstract must be provided in both English and Indonesian language (of a maximum of 150 words for each language). It should be brief and clear, comprising five elements: 1) the background of the research, 2) the aims of the research, 3) the methods, 4) the results, 5) the implication of the research 
  • KEYWORDS. Three to five keywords must be provided and must reflect the study focuses or variables (presented in alphabetical order). 
  • INTRODUCTION. The introduction contains the presentation of the phenomena as background information that leads to the research problems. Sufficient literature reviews are also presented in this section. Please use subheadings for better organization. Research questions, hypotheses, and study aims are presented at the end of this section.
  • METHODS. Methods should provide detailed information to enable replication of the study. Please refrain from presenting redundant information of the generally known terminologies (such as the definition of well-known study designs, sampling techniques, etc.). Subheadings of the Methods for original research manuscript typically include:
    • Participants: describe the criteria of participants, sampling techniques, and general characteristics.
    • Design: describe the study designs and the rationale.
    • Procedure: describe how the study was executed and ethics approval information.
    • Instruments: describe the instruments used to collect the data.
    • Analysis Strategies: describe the particular techniques that are used to analyze the main findings.
  • RESULTS. Presentations of the results should answer the research questions and hypotheses written in the Introduction section. Tables and figures may be used when necessary for effective presentation of the findings, but should not be redundantly explained in the paragraphs. When the interview is used as a data collection method, this section should also contain direct quotations of meaningful participants’ transcripts that support the findings. 
  • DISCUSSION. The discussion elaborates on the interpretations of the findings that are presented. Study limitations should also be adequately discussed in this section.
  • CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS. This section summarises the study findings and implications.
  • REFERENCES. List all references used in alphabetical order, in accordance to the 7th APA style. Refer to the examples below.
