Abstract

Entering the globalization era that provides positive spirit and various development challenges, the world still cannot be easily separate itself from the trap of lots of international-level problems. Those problems could not be handled and solved by a single country. One of those international-level problems is the climate change. There are no spots or countries that can be free from the thread of climate change, which is always increasing as the time goes on. Although climate change cannot be solved just by a single country, it does not mean that a single country could not contribute to help solving this global issue, with no exception to Indonesia. In addition, developing countries like Indonesia has to show more determination so that Indonesia did not always be used by bigger, developed countries. Using the case study method supported by the historical method, this research tries to understand the role that can be executed and the challenges faced by Indonesia in terms of tackling global climate change. This research uses the international political economy approach in comprehending Indonesia’s role and challenges in responding the climate change. In the end, all stakeholders in Indonesia have to realize that Indonesia could play a huge role in terms of climate change. However, Indonesia could not abandon and forget those various challenges, internally and externally. If those challenges can be solved excellently, than Indonesia could play a much bigger role in the efforts to tackle global climate change.
