Abstract

Catharsis refers to the emotional experience audiences feel after watching a movie. Although it plays an important part in making movies memorable and impactful, it is often overlooked by movie directors nowadays. Therefore, the audiences watching could feel bored or be left with little emotional relief. Previous research has shown the cathartic effect that movies bring in general. However, through this journal, we will examine deeper into the movie Jurassic Park (1993) and how the director Steven Spielberg created the cathartic effect. We will use the literature review method to analyse the current knowledge regarding catharsis into the movie Jurassic Park. Through the analysis that we did, we concluded that the movie Jurassic Park provides a cathartic effect through the use of cinematography, theme, and editing by the director himself.
